Sarah Staton’s multifaceted artistic practice incorporates inspiration from the complexities of our time, her work is informed from the areas of design, architecture, and fashion. She has been involved in a number of collaborative projects with artists, architects and institutions, and has undertaken many public commissions, including the Crucible Sheffield where her giant bench and trolleys animate the foyers, sitting like silent actors, to serve the audience before, after and in between performances.
Her works are held in numerous public collections including the Arts Council, Tate and British Museum, and in private collections in Europe and the US. Staton has exhibited extensively in the UK and abroad. In 2002, she was awarded the Henry Moore Sculpture Fellow at Sheffield Hallam before going on to receive the Arts Foundation Sculpture Prize in January 2008. Her recent public work at Bristol University was shortlisted for a 2017 Brick Award. She is presently working on commissions at Milton Keynes, and for three sites on the London Tideway project. In 2020 Sarah Staton’s SupaStore opened permanently at the Nida Art Colony, Lithuania. Staton is Senior Tutor in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art and currently lives and works in London.
