The Bear

Caroline Greyling’s design for You Can’t Waste This, Break it Down is inspired by the Bear Pit in the Sheffield Botanical Gardens from which the Bear sculpture originated and which was once used as Yorkshire’s largest compost pit. Composting is not only beneficial for gardeners but also plays a key part in reducing emissions and greenhouse gases.

Her Bear gets his name from the MC Hammer song ‘Can’t Touch This’, challenging the view that composting is a bit ‘icky’ but in the effort to promote sustainability and Sheffield as a green zero-carbon city, composting is essential.

Caroline Greyling
Caroline Greyling has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. She is a North Nottinghamshire based artist whose current body of work is based around the future’s return to the ways of the past. Caroline works mostly in painting and drawing but also enjoys using new materials and found objects. Caroline was previously involved in the Bee in the City sculpture trail in Manchester, she has been included in three Wild in Art projects and also works for The Harley Gallery.
