The Bear

Thoughts Make Things artist Lydia Lapinski’s Bear design is inspired by the notion that no matter how bad our circumstances are in life we are always free to dream. Inside the Bear pit at the Sheffield Botanical Gardens at night, Lydia wonders what would her Bear dream about? Perhaps the contents of his days, a sea of people gazing at him with wonder, compassion, fear, excitement and joy.

The Bear was surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful flowers and plant life, towering above, growing through cracks in the wall. Lydia’s design depicts this hopeful concept in vivid dream like colours, with plants inspired by the Botanical Gardens and the animals that live there. She wants the viewer to put themselves in the Bear’s place and wonder.
