The Bear

For his Bear design, Pieces, artist Nicolas Burrows has incorporated energetic compositions that play with colour and form. Nick works primarily with collage and he was inspired by the idea of bringing movement into the heavy and static Bear sculpture.

Pieces reflects his dynamic style, the design is made up of wild and wonky shapes that interact all over the Bear’s surface achieving the feeling of movement.

Nicolas Burrows
Nicolas Burrows is an illustrator and artist working primarily with collage, creating abstract and figurative compositions influenced by outsider art and modernist style. His dynamic, playful compositions have been applied to animation, editorial illustration, textiles, packaging design and record covers. He is the author and illustrator of the award winning children’s book ‘The Elephant Hotel’. Since 2007 Nicolas has collaborated on a wide range of projects with Jay Cover and William Luz as Nous Vous. He is also an Associate Lecturer on BA Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts and makes music under the name Fell.

The centre will be sponsoring two Big Bears on the trail as well as housing four Big Bears and a few of the Little Bears in the centre over the Summer. In October, Meadowhall will also be hosting the farewell event where all of the Bears from across the trail will come together for one final farewell.
