Bradfield School

Bradfield school is an 11-18 second school based largely in a rural community with a wide and varied catchment area. When they participated in the Herd of Sheffield in 2016, not only did they love the creativity but it inspired their students and their families to go on the elephant trail across Sheffield bringing together the larger school community.

Most of the students will at some point either be a visitor or patient at Sheffield Children’s hospital and all appreciate what a vital resource it is for the city. The school see the project as an opportunity for furthering self-development in their students and being a ‘good human’. The support and enthusiasm from the students and their families during the Herd of Sheffield was overwhelming and they wish to encourage that response again. Although the project is enjoyable they want to focus their pupils on the sense of giving back to their city and the services of the NHS.

Buzz

All the Year 7’s at Bradfield School submitted a design for the Bear and they have had over 200 designs to choose from! They have looked at common themes chosen by their Year 7’s and combined them together using a honeycomb pattern as a background.

The students identified aspects of Sheffield that mean something to them such as the wonderful outdoors, local football teams, industry, and food. They also liked the link with stories including bears such as ‘Bear under the Stairs’ and ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ to name but a few! Within each hexagon is an image reflecting all the different ideas their Year 7’s came up with. As they had so many different ideas, they decided to try to incorporate as many as possible to make the visitors look all around the Bear, top to bottom!
