The Bear

Natalie Finnemore’s design for Billy draws together a collection of cut-outs, sketches and texts from her own sketchbook. Her drawings are often reconstructed into large-scale sculptures, shifting between the flat and sculptural, and this is reflected in her design for the Bear.

Billy displays nuances from existing structures around the city that go unnoticed including paintings of a hanging cable, a stack of cement bags, graffiti and a broken fence. Finnemore has chosen to use the ‘throw away’ sections from her image archive in the design of her Bear.

The Artist
Natalie Finnemore
Natalie Finnemore is a contemporary artist based in Sheffield. Her work encompasses drawing, printmaking and sculpture. A trend for play or interaction from the audience has continued through her sculpture works. Her practice draws influence from how design can change the user's behaviour and simultaneously explores the expectations of minimalist sculpture. Finnemore has explored these concerns working in furniture design, designing home wares, delivering educational sculpture projects and window displays.
