The Bear
Bethany School, founded in 1987 is a small and friendly Christian school run by and for the parents and children involved. The school strives to maintain a happy, informal and friendly atmosphere.
Joy
Their Bear Joy will be painted by professional artist Kate Rose from Sheffield. The design is based on drawings by the children of Bethany School. Each child was given a piece of bunting on which they were asked to draw themselves, alongside things that they love about Bethany. Kate Rose will paint their sculpture with the bunting adorning the Bear as a celebration of their school community. Included in the design is a rainbow as a symbol of thanks to the NHS and to represent the Christian ethos of their school.
The name Joy was chosen because the School’s Herd of Sheffield Elephant was named Hope. Their hope lies in their Christian belief which brings them great joy. Bethany School is a joyful community and this will be reflected in the colours and fun themes of their sculpture. 2020/21 has been a tough year for many, and they hope that their Little Bear Joy, along with all the other Bears, will bring some happiness to all who see them.
