The Bear
Following the success of his Herd of Sheffield Elephant which celebrated Sheffield’s industrial past, Jonathan Wilknson’s Bear design also celebrates something iconic to Sheffield. Paying homage to the vibrant Sheffield design classic, the Liquorice Allsort, Bertie Bear is camouflaged in a pattern of shapes and colours that resemble the familiar shapes of the much loved sweet. Jonathan was inspired by the notion that all bears have a reputation for possessing a sweet tooth, and Bertie Bear is no exception to this idea.

Jonathan's art and illustrations celebrate the things that define where we live. His scenes of urban landscapes and architectural landmarks have been the mainstay of his work for the last 13 years. A painter and illustrator, Jonathan graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2001 with a degree in Painting and Printmaking and started off his career in graphic design. Inspired by the brutalist surroundings of Sheffield’s urban landscape. He launched an online store for his own art, ‘We Live Here’, in 2007. Jonathan’s pared-back and architectural style quickly gained him a local following which now stretches far beyond Sheffield. His commissions include art prints for the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Sheffield Theatres, the National Theatre, RIBA and The Sage Gateshead.The Sponsor
