The Bear
Laura Aldridge uses a range of media in her sculptural practice. Her sculptures invite an impulsive response that is interrupted by the barrier of not being able to physically engage with the work itself. At this intersection Aldridge allows the intuitive and the sensory to unfold.
Her design for this Bear sculpture is a celebration of the Bear itself, whose head is adorned with a ceramic floral wreath as a sign of honour to the other Bears. Wreaths are traditionally worn at ceremonies and have a long history of association with ancient pageants and ceremonies.

The Artist
Laura Aldridge
Laura Aldridge is an internationally renowned contemporary artist, living and working in Glasgow. She works with a range of media; photography, textiles, ceramics and glass are all incorporated into a sculptural practice that she describes as an expanded form of collage. Laura’s installations explore the double-bind of subjectivity and objectivity, making versus experiencing, viewing versus participating. Her most recent installations emphasise display and presentation, exploring her own intuitive response to material and physicality. The Sponsor
